MOS and Starbucks publish limitations that should remain visible when presenting menu options.

Separate recipe from handling

Starbucks Japan's plant-based explanation describes its ingredient scope and exclusions, while also noting shared production and store handling with animal products. MOS's November 2021 discussion likewise makes shared conditions relevant to its plant-based food information.

These statements should not be collapsed into a single universal verdict. An ingredient policy and a preparation environment answer different questions, and travelers may make different choices based on them.

State what matters to you

Ask whether your concern is an intentionally included ingredient, shared utensils, a shared cooking surface or another preparation condition. A specific question helps staff describe what they can actually do. Do not demand that an ingredient label prove a separate kitchen if the operator does not claim one.

For current availability, consult today's product information: a historical MOS article is not a live menu. If strict separation is required, seek confirmation before ordering. This article does not present either chain's plant-based terminology as halal certification or as an allergy guarantee.
