How to check a Japanese dietary food recommendation before you go

A five-part evidence check helps distinguish a useful lead from an unsupported guarantee.

A five-part evidence check helps distinguish a useful lead from an unsupported guarantee.

Check scope, date and completeness

  1. Source: start with the operator's menu or policy. A reposted photograph may omit its context.
  2. Date: MOS's November 2021 article and Freshness's March 2023 notice are historical material, not live stock lists.
  3. Branch: compare the exact address. AFURI's directory, for example, lists distinct restaurants within the same district.
  4. Complete order: Subway Japan's milk-containing bread shows why a vegetable filling is insufficient evidence of a vegan sandwich.
  5. Preparation: ask separately about equipment or handling if that matters to your requirements.

Write down the unanswered question

A recommendation can be useful while one detail remains unknown. Record what the evidence establishes and what you still need to ask, then contact the intended branch. Do not convert an unanswered question into either a confident approval or a chain-wide rejection.

Before leaving, reconfirm service hours, menu availability and any reservation arrangement. This guide is a practical evidence method; it does not guarantee a meal, certify a kitchen or replace individualized allergy advice. Keep the source and its date with the recommendation so your next check is straightforward.
